Application Procedure
The UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance is continuing to accept applications for the MME degree program only. All other applications are now closed. Thank you for your interest. Please check our website after July 15th for information regarding auditions and the application procedure for all 2013 terms.
Getting Started
1. All applicants to the Conservatory must apply to the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Click here for access to the UMKC domestic application or the UMKC international application. Along with the UMKC applications are a few extra items that also need to be submitted. Please check the categories below to see which one applies to your application process. Send these materials to the address listed on the UMKC application form.
Freshman applicants submit
- UMKC general application
- Official transcripts of all high school work
- ACT or SAT scores
- $35 application fee
Transfer applicants submit
- UMKC general application
- Official transcripts of all college coursework. Transfer applicants with less than 24 credit hours must also submit transcripts of all high school work and ACT/SAT scores.
- $35 application fee
Graduate Applicants submit
- UMKC general application
- Official transcripts of all previous college level work
- $35 application fee
- GRE is not required
International Applicants
- UMKC International Application (click on applying to UMKC)
- Official transcripts and translations of all pertinent school course work
- $50 application fee
- TOEFL test score
- Certified Statement of Financial Responsibility (see international application for details)
2. Applicants for most programs must complete and submit the Conservatory Supplemental Application for Admission and Audition. The supplemental application can be accessed only after completion of the UMKC application process. Once you complete your UMKC application you will receive an emailed completion notice. That notice has an attachment that contains a UMKC web application number and the URL for the Conservatory´s supplemental application. You will need to access the URL provided and submit the web application number to log onto the Conservatory´s supplemental application. Conservatory auditions are scheduled only after the completion of the supplemental application, not by phone or email request. For most programs the deadline for completing and submitting all application materials is December 15, 2011. This is not a postmark date. Late applications may not be allowed an audition time. The Conservatory will continue to accept applications after our deadline date as long as openings are still available for your intended area of study.
3. Applicants for Graduate Vocal Performance (BM, MM, DMA, Performer’s Certificate, Artist Certificate), DMA or Artist Certificate in Piano Performance, and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City/ UMKC Young Artist Program must complete and submit the pre-screening process via Citizen Groove (www.citizengroove.com/clients/umkc/apply/welcome/). The deadline for receipt (not postmark) of all application materials is the close of business December 1, 2011. This pre-screening application will require a UMKC student ID number, available only after completion of the UMKC application. Apply early; these numbers take up to 48 hours to generate. Successfully screened applicants will be invited to UMKC for a live audition on the requested audition date. Please also see "Special Program Requirements" for specific details.
4. All Composition applicants (BM, MM, DMA) have an application deadline of December 1, 2011. All application materials, scores, recording, references, resumes must be received by the close of business December 1, 2011. Please also see "Special Program Requirements" for specific details.
