Frequently Asked Questions
Does the student have to stay at the hotel even if they live near by?
Yes all students are required to stay at the Hotel.
Will the students be chaperoned?
The students will have constant chaperoning. There will be at least 25 chaperones
with the students at all times. The halls of the hotel will be monitored the entire
night, each night. Chaperones include UMKC Faculty and graduate assistants. Most
have public school teaching experience and all have worked with similar events and
have chaperoning experience. Student safety is top priority. Student room assignments
will be made in advance by UMKC staff. Students will be placed in rooms (QUAD OCCUPANCY)
with other students from their school or nearby schools wherever possible. (Please
do not ask for special accommodations, they will not be granted). Students will
be roomed with students from the same age group.
When will I have more details?
Shortly after October 21st an updated list of received registrations (student participants)
and additional final information will be made available online on the UMKC Band's
Web site http://conservatory.umkc.edu/bands . This information will be made available
as downloadable and printable PDF files for your convenience. If this is not an
option available to you, please notify the band office and hard copies will be sent.
Parents and students will want to periodically check the website leading up to the
Festival for any pertinent final information.
Will students be able to drive around town on their free time?
Students arriving in personally owned vehicles will not be permitted to drive while
at the Festival. This is a university policy and will be strictly enforced.
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee includes a festival t-shirt, a ticket for the UMKC concert
on Friday evening, transportation between the hotel (Q Hotel) and UMKC, pizza party,
banquet, housing, and a daily breakfast at the hotel.
