Choral Singing at the Community Music and Dance Academy

The Community Music and Dance Academy hosts a comprehensive choral program that serves singers from Kindergarten through college.  With the vision and leadership of Artistic Directors Jennifer Benjamin and Sarin Peck, the opportunities are endless!

Canta Filia

Under Artistic Director Jennifer Benjamin, Canta Filia ("Daughters of Song") is an ensemble of young women ages 14 - 20 who are dedicated to excellence in the performance of choral music and to developing a community of friends who share a love of singing.  During the 2009 - 2010 season, Canta Filia will perform in a UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance opera production.  Strenuous auditions are held and participation is limited to advanced singers.  Learn more!

Kansas City Children's Chorus

Kansas City Children's Chorus members perform the finest in choral music, from sacred to classical, folk to musical theater, opera to pop, while developing skills in sight reading, tonal production and vocal technique.  Under the baton of Artistic Director Sarin Peck, the Kansas City Children's Chorus performs at various venues throughout the year and has collaborated with choral groups from around the Midwest.  Singers ages 8 - 14 are invited to audition.  Learn more!

Roo Singers

Roo Singers provides a foundation that is a wonderful preparation for the Kansas City Children's Chorus.  Open to all singers ages 5 - 8, no audition is necessary for this introductory group singing experience.  Roo Singers performs once per semester in an information singing presentation/social event for singers and parents, and collaborates with Kansas City Children's Chorus to present public performances.  Learn more!

NEW OPPORTUNITY:  Veritas

2009 - 2010 will be the inaugural season for Veritas, a vocal ensemble for young men ages 14 - 20 that strives for superior performance and artistic expression in choral singing.  Veritas is a counterpart to Canta Filia and will appear in collaboration with that group, in addition to its own performance schedule.  Artistic Director Jennifer Benjamin welcomes new members.  Strenuous auditions are held and participation is limited to advanced singers.  Learn more!
