Conservatory Kids Club

UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance Kids Club programs are a fun way for children to learn about music and dance!

Ideal for children ages 3 - 8, each event features activities that encourage your child in music and dance. Conservatory Kids Club is the perfect way to introduce your child to a lifetime of enjoyment and appreciation of the performing arts. Join us for the 2009 - 2010 season as we Whistle and Roar with animal-themed concerts.

Season ticket holders (total cost:  $32.00) will receive:  tickets to each Conservatory Kids Club performance for one child and one adult companion, as well as a 2009 - 2010 Conservatory Kids Club T-shirt.  Tickets to individual performances can be purchased in advance or at the door for $10.00.  Call 816-235-2741 to purchase tickets or click "register online" above to purchase tickets online.

Animal Tales

with Mauricio Salguero, Daniel Eichenbaum, and Stephanie Roberts

Come join Community Music and Dance Academy instructors Daniel Eichenbaum and Mauricio Salguero, joined by UMKC Assistant Professor of Theatre Stephanie Roberts, for a magical morning of Native American and Latin American animal tales.  You'll hear about Juana la Iguana, Coyote the Imitator, and all their friends.  Along the way you'll learn some Spanish and why it's important to be yourself.

Green Eggs and Ham

with Peter Witte and UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance musicians

Featuring Dean Peter Witte conducting UMKC Conservatory musicians, join us for the contemporary sounds of Rob Kapilow's "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Gertrude McFuzz," musical settings of the classic Dr. Seuss stories.  "Green Eggs and Ham" Hailed as "a merry, whiz-bang romp" seamlessly incorporating sophisticated references to familiar classical and popular music.

Carnival of the Animals

with Brendan and Shoko Kinsella

Join Community Music and Dance Academy faculty Shoko and Brendan Kinsella, Academy instrumental faculty, and dancers under the direction of Paula Weber and Amanda McMaster in a choreographed performance of Camille Saint-Saens' zoological fantasy, "Carnival of the Animals" (with accompanying poems by Ogden Nash).  Also on the program is Luciano Berio's "Opus Number Zoo," a narated wind quintet featuring a barn dance, a fawn, a mous, and many cats.  Kids Club members are encouraged to draw pictures of the animals during the performance:  lions, elephants, and donkeys, oh my!

Wiggle, Giggle, Quack

Come join the teaching staff of UMKC Conservatory's award-winning Kindermusik program for a special concert full of wiggles, giggles, and all kinds of animal sounds.  Our talented teachers will be presenting Conservatory Kids Club's first-ever concert designed expressly for children ages 0 - 5 years with a special trip to the farm to visit some of your favorite animal friends.  This concert makes a great early concertgoing experience for even the youngest child with lots of audience participation, plenty of room for singing along, and woodwind, percussion, piano, and classical voice performances.

 

 

 

 

 

Location

Kids Club events are held at White Hall in the James C. Olson Performing Arts Center at UMKC, just east of the Country Club Plaza. FREE parking is available at three locations. Each event starts at 10:00 A.M. and lasts about an hour.
