Conservatory Artist Series

Conservatory Artist Series

The Conservatory Artist Series sustains our commitment to great performances while celebrating our bonds with Kansas City and national arts organizations. We are thrilled to partner with the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in its inaugural year and present our ensembles in this beautiful new hall in our 2011-12 season.

This is the second year of Music Alliance, our partnership with The Friends of Chamber Music, which is designed to bring the world's finest artists to Kansas City. The series, highlighting master works and new music, builds bridges between emerging and established artists and fosters community access to professional musicians through concerts, residencies and master classes.

Feb 1, 2012 Pro Arte Quartet, White Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m.
Pro Arte Quartet
The Pro Arte Quartet was founded at the Brussels Conservatory in 1911-12 and is known for its devotion to new music. The University of Wisconsin offered the quartet a permanent home in 1940, during the quartet’s appearance in Madison, and thus a model of residency was born. The quartet will conduct a master class at the Conservatory.

This concert is underwritten by the James and Vera Olson Fund for the Arts.

Feb. 20, 2012, Conservatory Dancers, Choirs, and Wind Symphony: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 7:30 p.m.
Kauffman Center
Orff’s popular Carmina Burana, conducted by Robert Bode, is an audience favorite for its diverse offerings of love, lust, and the evocative moods of spring. Choreographed by Paula Weber, the dancers evoke the poetry of spring and the Carmina Burana’s cycle of life.

April 28, 2012, Conservatory Orchestra
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 7:30 p.m.
Kauffman Center
Under the direction of Robert Olson, this stellar group of Conservatory students always dazzles the audience with amazing artistry. The program includes Chen Yi’s beautiful Chinese Myths, a cantata for orchestra with four Chinese traditional instrumentalists, mixed choir and dancers. The performance will include the Conservatory’s dancers, choir and orchestra.

Music Alliance

Sunday, February 19, 2012, Konstantin Lifschitz, Piano, White Recital Hall, 2:30 p.m.
Konstantine Lifschitz
As a child, Lifschitz became irresistibly attracted to the piano, playing by ear and improvising with total absorption for hours on end. At age 17 his interpretation of Bach’s Goldberg Variations led The New York Times to acclaim the performance as “the most powerful pianistic interpretation since Glenn Gould’s.” Liftschitz is also performing in the Friends of Chamber Music’s 2012 Bach Festival and will give master classes at the Conservatory.

Friday, March 16, 2012, Morgenstern Trio, Folly Theater, 8:00 p.m.
Morgenstern Trio

Stefan Hempel, violin, Catherine Klipfel, piano, and Emanuel Wehse, violoncello joined forces in 2005 at the Folkwang Academy in Essen, taking its name after Christian Morgenstern, a popular German writer. The Morgenstern Trio has made a name for itself in concert halls across Germany, particularly through the "Bundesauswahl Konzerte Junger Künstler" and the "Best of NRW" concert series. The trio will give master classes at the Conservatory.

Saturday, April 21, 2012, Jennifer Koh, violin, Shai Wosner, piano, White Recital Hall, 7:30 p.m.
Jennifer Koh, violin, Shai Wosner, piano

Violinist Jennifer Koh has earned a world-wide reputation for being unique in her generation for bringing her probing intellectual acuity to contemporary and traditional repertoire in equal measure, and is beloved by audiences and critics alike for her consummate musicianship and the daring passion of her performances. Her programs often present rare juxtapositions. Ms. Koh and Mr. Wosner will give master classes at the Conservatory.
