Audition / Interview Dates, Procedures

Scheduling your Audition/Interview

  • Auditions are scheduled at the time of application.  To schedule your audition date, please apply to the Conservatory.
  • All applicants must schedule an audition, with the exception of the following degree programs:
    • MM-Music Composition
    • DMA - Music Composition
  • Auditions should be scheduled only in the major performing area. If a student is highly proficient in more than one instrument/voice, he/she may audition in more than one area.
  • All applicants are very strongly advised to audition on campus. If scheduling difficulties or distances are insurmountable, applicants must request to audition via recording. Contact Conservatory Admissions (cadmissions@umkc.edu) for approval.
  • For most programs the deadline for completing and submitting all application materials is December 15, 2016. Late applications may not be allowed an audition time.
  • All auditions must be completed by March 3, 2017 in order to be eligible for scholarship consideration.
  • Audition times and schedules will be confirmed approximately 30 days prior to the scheduled audition.  Unless we contact you to reschedule, you should plan to audition on the date you chose on your application.

Audition/Interview Details:

  • When planning to travel to UMKC for your audition, please note that audition day events start at 9:00am.  Please plan to be here by that time on your selected day.
  • Please take a look at our Repertoire Sheets page to see what will be expected on the audition/interview for your area.
  • Non-performance majors are required to perform a 10-minute audition in their applied area, except in graduate flute, where a 15-minute audition will be required.
  • The auditioning committee will have the option of hearing as much of the prepared repertoire, in whole or in part, as it deems necessary to assess the applicant's ability.  Each applicant may choose the first piece to perform.
  • There is no audition fee.
  • UMKC will provide staff accompanists for all voice auditions. There is no fee for vocal accompanists.
  • Accompanists for orchestral instruments and classical guitar are not required and will not be provided.
  • The following programs do not admit new students to start in spring terms:
