Special Program Requirements

  • Graduate Voice:
    • A pre-screen recording must be submitted with the application for our graduate voice performance programs.  Applicants who pass the pre-screen round will be invited to campus for an audition on the date chosen on the application.  Audition/pre-screen details can be found at the links below:
  • Doctoral-level Piano:
    • A pre-screen recording must be submitted with the application for our DMA Performance Piano and Artist Certificate (piano) programs.  These applicants must also submit a sample of scholarly writing and a proposed program of audition repertoire. Applicants who pass the pre-screen round will be invited to campus for an audition on the date chosen on the application.  Audition/pre-screen details can be found here:?
  • Composition:
    • Applications for our Composition degree programs require submission of a portfolio of composed works.  Undergraduate Composition applicants who pass the portfolio round will be invited to campus for an audition.  Portfolio requirements can be found at the links below:
  • Graduate Saxophone:
  • Conducting:
    • Pre-screen videos must be submitted with the application for our conducting programs.  Audition/pre-screen details can be found at the links below:?
  • Music Education: All applicants for music education degrees must interview with the music education faculty.
    All undergraduate music education applicants must also perform a successful audition prior to being admitted.  Auditions are not required for graduate-level music education degrees
  • Music Therapy: All applicants for music therapy degrees must successfully interview with the music therapy faculty.  In addition:
    • Undergraduates all applicants applying for an undergraduate degree in Music Therapy will need to prepare and sing (a capella) two popular songs of his/her choice in any genre during the interview with music therapy faculty.  In addition, undergraduate Music Therapy applicants must perform a successful audition on applied instrument/voice type (the a capella songs are part of the interview ONLY, and are separate from the materials required for the audition.)
    • An audition is also required for those with an incoming music bachelor's degree applying for the MA in Music, Music Therapy Emphasis Program.  This audition is for evaluative purposes only and will be scheduled separately from the interview.  Board-Certified Music Therapists returning for the Master of Arts-Music Therapy Degree will need to provide clinical skill competencies in lieu of an audition as part of the admission process.
    • IPh.D. candidates have other requirements (please contact the music therapy faculty for details). 
  • Musicology: Graduate applicants for the M.M. in Musicology degree must also submit a sample of scholarly writing and a statement of purpose.
  • Graduate Music Theory: Graduate applicants for the M.M. in Music Theory degree must also submit a sample of scholarly writing and a statement of purpose. All music theory applicants will also interview during the audition day.
