The Dance Division produces 5-6 concerts a year with
2 major concerts choreographed by the graduating seniors in a 620 seat professional
theater. In addition to the Dance Division's formal concerts, students have the
opportunity to present informal concerts and perform in musical theater, opera and
in interdisciplinary arts projects both on and off campus.
The Dance Division has unique professional apprenticeship programs with the Kansas
City Ballet, the Albany-Berkshire Ballet and the Wylliams/Henry Danse Theatre enabling
talented students professional release time to work with these companies and other
established professional dance companies across the nation. The Dance Division brings
in a variety of nationally prominent artist/choreographers for master classes and
residences throughout the year to broaden the students' dance education, foster
creative thinking and establish professional lessons for the future. The Wylliams/Henry
Danse Theatre, the Conservatory's professional dance company in residence, provides
students exposure to the nation's finest emerging and established artists/choreographers
and the opportunity to be seen by nationally renowned choreographers and company
directors while at UMKC (www.wylliams-henry.com).
