Vocal Studies

Crafted to prepare students for careers in opera, musical theatre, choral arts, music education, and music therapy, our Vocal Studies program empowers students to excel. Students have been semi-finalists in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and have participated in some of this country's most prestigious Young Artist Programs including Santa Fe, Glimmerglass, Central City, and Wolf Trap. Opportunities with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City give students experience that readies them for professional placement for fulfilling singing careers.
Performing opportunities are available to students from undergraduate through doctoral, and across disciplines for the advanced vocal musician on the cusp of a professional career, or the non-music major. In addition to the solo recitals students present during their studies, they can take advantage of additional performance experience through two main-stage opera productions each year opera workshop scenes and one-act operas); main-stage musical theatre productions; choral ensemble concerts; workshops with guest conductors; and master classes with world-renowned singers including Sherrill Milnes, Carol Vaness, Amy Burton and others.
