Reynold Simpson

Associate Professor of Music Theory

Dr. Simpson is Director of the Center for Computer Assisted Instruction in Music. He is a graduate of The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, the Juilliard School, and Princeton University. Dr. Simpson teaches form and analysis and graduate courses in Schenkerian Theory and 20th Century music. He is Associate Editor of Symposium, the Journal of the College Music Society, and has recently published articles in Theory and Practice and the Indiana Theory Review. He has presented papers at meetings of the Society for Music Theory, the British Conference on Music Analysis, Music Theory-Midwest, and the New York State Music Theory Society. He is also an active composer and his music has been performed repeatedly by such diverse ensembles as the American Brass Quintet, The New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, The Times Square Basstet, and EarPlay. He has recently been commissioned by the Missouri Music Teachers Association for a Concerto for Piano, Winds and Percussion.
