Justin Doss recently completed his PhD in music education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. As a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the Conservatory, he enjoyed working with undergraduate and graduate music majors in a wide range of courses. He served as an adjunct instructor with the School of Education as a field experience supervisor for student teachers, both at UMKC and Missouri State University. Prior to enrolling at UMKC, he earned BA and MAE degrees from Truman State University (Kirksville,MO). Justin spent seven years teaching in the Park Hill School District (Kansas City, MO), both as a middle school/high school band director and AP music theory instructor. While at Park Hill, bands under his guidance consistently earned excellent and superior ratings at the MSHSAA State Large Group Ensemble Festival. Justin is active as a freelance musician, adjudicator, clinician, private lessons instructor, and marching band drill writer in the region. He has created and developed educational festivals for young musicians, including the Park Hill 8th Grade District Band Festival, the Park Hill District Marching Band Festival, and IMPACT at UMKC, an event designed to inform and support high school students aspiring to pursue an undergraduate music education major. Professional affiliations have included MENC/NAfME, MMEA, MBA, CBDNA, NEA, MSTA, ACDA, and the National Eagle Scout Association. Justin and his wife Rebecca live in Lee’s Summit, MO, where they have two beautiful sons, Joey and Noah.
