Each fall UMKC Jazz Friends host Jazz & BBQ.
During a delicious BBQ buffet dinner, guests are invited to bid on great silent
auction items while listening to the sounds of outstanding student jazz musicians.
Following dinner the main event features the UMKC Conservatory of Music Concert
Jazz Band under the direction of Jazz Studies Program
director, Bobby Watson. Many outstanding Kansas City jazz musicians
including assistant program director Michael Pagán and those who
serve as adjunct faculty members for the Jazz Studies Program appear
as guest artists for the concert.
Proceeds from the dinner, silent auction, and concert have grown each year. Funds
raised provide students scholarships, big band arrangements, travel to national
and international competitions, and stipends for adjunct faculty members.
