The faculty believes that the study and performance of chamber music of all types is an essential part of the curriculum. Current requirements in the various degree programs are being studied so that even more time and credit can be spent in chamber music for students desiring that emphasis. The premiere groups are the Conservatory Graduate String Quartet and the Graduate Woodwind Quintet and those accepted into these groups receive a generous stipend and other benefits. All undergraduate performance majors have a four semester requirement for participation in a chamber group, and that number will increase under the new plan, as will the credit hours earned. The current requirements for graduate students will also be increased in the near future, offering the opportunity to emphasize the chamber music area if desired. Non-performance majors also have the opportunity to be placed in chamber groups for credit if their schedule permits.
