Conservatory Concert Jazz Band Invited to Perform in Japan at National Cultural Festival
The Conservatory of Music and Dance is pleased to announce that the Conservatory Concert Jazz Band, under the direction of Bobby Watson has been invited by the city of Kurashiki, Japan, via the Heart of America Japan-America Society to perform in Kurashiki, Japan in October 2010 during Japan's 25th National Cultural Festival in Okayama prefecture. The all-expenses paid trip will allow our students to perform for this prestigious festival, and experience and learn about Japanese culture through Kurashiki, a sister city to Kansas City, Missouri.
The group will travel to Japan October 30–November 8, 2010 to perform in the festival. As part of the National Cultural Festival, Kurashiki City Hall is planning nine events, one of which is a Jazz Festival, during which the Conservatory's Concert Jazz Band will perform. During the festival, the Concert Jazz Band will perform for and interact with students from several schools, perform in a joint concert with Sakuyo University, and also as part of the final main stage concert at the Jazz Festival.
The trip is underwritten by the city of Kurashiki, Japan, with special coordination from Kansas City's Heart of America Japan-America Society.
