Conducting DMA Student Sam Yang Competes Internationally, Wins Top Prize

About the Conservatory

Sam Yang, 4th year DMA, conducting, who studies with Robert Olson, has won the top prize in the 1st Bucharest International Conducting Competition, Romania, August 17–23, 2011.

Sam competed against against 60 conductors from around the world.  The jury decided not to award a first prize, instead awarding 2nd prize to Sam and two other conductors.  Sam told Dr. Olson that he, Sam, was the only conductor in the competition not trained in Europe.

The competition is part of the 4th Summer Music Festival "Little Paris," August 15–23, 2011, presented by the European College of Music in partnership with the National College of Arts “Dinu Lipatti” and the Association of the East European Centre of Arts.
