Conservatory Vocal Grad Student Armando Contreras is a Winner At Naftzger

Conservatory graduate student, Armando Contreras, baritone, (MM, vocal performance), who studies with Vinson Cole, has won a $2,000 prize in the 2016 Naftzger Young Artist Auditions, held March 18 and 19, 2016, Wichita, KS.  He is one of three students to win the $2,000 award.

Sixty-one student musicians entered the competition that began on March 18.  During the first round, contestants competed within their own division only, vying to be chosen for the March 19 finals.

This year marked the 76th Naftzger Young Artists Auditions since the competition’s inception in 1940.  The Naftzger Young Artists Auditions and Awards are made possible by the Naftzger Fund for Fine Arts, Inc., created by Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Naftzger in memory of L.S. Naftzger, Ida L. Naftzger and Lee Southwell Naftzger II.
