DMA Flute Performance Alum Sophia Tegart Named Instructor at George Fox University

About the Conservatory

Sophia Tegart, DMA/Flute Performance 2011, a student of Mary Posses, has been named Instructor of Flute at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. Located 23 miles southwest of Portland, George Fox University was ranked among the top 150 schools in United States in the 2010-11 Forbes Magazine rankings of U.S. schools, and second in Forbes’s list of the top 10 schools in Oregon.

In addition to winning this position, her other honors during summer 2011 include being awarded one of the two Flute Fellowships to the Atlantic Music Festival in Waterville, ME; being named one of six finalists (and the only flutist) in the Mu Phi International Competition, held at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY; and performing in the Des Moines Metro Opera production of La Bohème as a result of winning that company’s banda piccolo audition.

During 2010-11, she held the Flute Fellowship in the UMKC Conservatory Graduate Fellowship Woodwind Quintet, was Co-Principal Flutist of the Conservatory Orchestra and Wind Symphony, was soloist in a Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra, performed as substitute flutist with the Kansas City Symphony, and was the winner of the Mu Phi Epsilon Musicological Research Competition/Graduate Thesis Division.
