UMKC Conservatory's Concerto/Aria 2016 Winners
The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Concerto/Aria competition.
Armando Contreras, baritone, performs “Look! Through the port … And farewell to ye, old rights o’ man!” from Billy Budd, Op. 50, by Benjamin Britten (1917–1976); Brian Woods, orchestral reduction
Xiangyu Zhao, piano, (who studies with Robert Weirich) performs I. Allegro ma non troppo e maestoso from Concerto for Piano in D-flat Major, Op. 38 (1936) by Aram Khachaturian (1903–1978); Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, orchestral reduction
Fraser Farmer, bassoon, (who studies with Marita Abner) performs III. Tema e variazioni from Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra (1977) by Nino Rota (1911–1979); Dan Velicer, orchestral reduction
The Conservatory Orchestra will also perform the 2015 Gerald Kemner Prize in Orchestral Composition winning piece, Steven Landis’s Burnt Ends.
