Conservatory Composition Alum Cooper Ottum Wins Competition
Cooper Ottum (MM composition, 2015) has won the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra's 2016 Composition Competition with his MM thesis composition Bird-like, Five Scenes for Sinfonietta or Chamber Orchestra. His work is performed February 27, 2016, which will be a world premiere.
An ensemble founded by young musicians in 2009, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra focuses on bringing unique musical experiences to young and diverse new listeners. SMCO's intimate performances feature a unique mix of music for chamber orchestra and small ensemble, with a significant focus on contemporary and rarely heard masterworks of the genre. The ensemble brings to life music of the baroque, classical, romantic, and modern eras and premieres new works of gifted young composers.
