Composition Alum William Lackey Named as VP, Programs, of American Composers Forum


William J. (Billy) Lackey (MM, composition; DMA composition, 2009) has been named as the Vice President, Programs of the American Composers Forum, St. Paul, MN.

Lackey has an extensive background in arts management. Since June 2009 he has been managing director of the Mizzou New Music Initiative at the University of Missouri, overseeing an array of programs that helped establish the school as a leading center for the creation and performance of new music. His work included long-range planning, development and implementation of artistic objectives, marketing, fundraising and management of day-to-day operations.

He has collaborated with an extensive list of composers and ensembles during that tenure and successfully managed the Mizzou International Composers Festival for six years. Lackey has worked extensively with K-12 students as Director of the Creating Original Music Project (COMP), including an annual festival, developed in part to reach underrepresented areas of Missouri. He also led the Missouri Summer Composition Institute (Summer COMP) for high school students, which most recently was able to accommodate 16 of Missouri’s finest young artists. William has served on the board of the Odyssey Chamber Music Series in Columbia, Missouri, the Kansas City Electronic Music and Arts Alliances (KcEMA) and the newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.
