Naxos has released a CD with compositions by UMKC Conservatory professor Chen Yi, the Lorena Searcy Cravens/ Millsap/ Missouri Distinguished Professor of Composition, featuring cellist Carter Enyeart, the Rose Ann Carr Millsap/ Missouri Distinguished Professor of Cello.  Music for Wind Band features KC Capriccio for wind ensemble and mixed chorus (2000), Suite for Cello and Chamber Winds (2004), Woodwind Quintet (1987), Feng for woodwind quintet (1998), and Tu for wind ensemble (2002, rev. 2004).

The CD highlights Carter Enyeart, cello, with members of the Lubbuck Chorale, John Dickson, Chorus-master, and the Texas Tech University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Sarah McKoin, former Conservatory faculty member.

Chen Yi's compositions fuse the traditions and sounds of the East with the West.  Here her inspirations include the booming tide of Chaoyin Cave in Southeastern China, folk tunes, Chinese instruments, and more.  2002's Tu is dedicated to the victims of 9/11.
