UMKC Composition Students CoFound FuseBox New Music

Three UMKC composition students have co-founded FuseBox New Music, which champions composers by providing them with paid commissions, concerts, recordings, and collaborative opportunities. Scott Steele, (MM composition)  Zane Winter (MM composition) and Ted King-Smith (DMA composition) launched FuseBox in 2015. Since launch, FuseBox has commissioned five composers and earned support from ArtsKC and the KC Municipal Arts Commission.

The group's inaugural concert, the Debussy Project, premieres October 1 and 4 at Prairie Logic, 1271 Main St., 6th floor, KCMO 64105 (above Cosentino's).

Both concerts are free and begin at 7:30 p.m. The performance features Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp along with four pieces commissioned for the event. Performer include Christina Webster, flute (UMKC alumna); Jessica Nance, viola; and Tabitha Steiner, harp.
