Composition Undergrad Gavin Brivik Excels at Film Scoring Wkshop
Composition senior Gavin Brivik attended the ASCAP/NYU film scoring workshop where he got to work with the New York Philharmonic players, and with professionals in every field from mixing engineers to East/West programmers who taught the students how to make their samples sound real.
Gavin also had one-on-one lessons with Michael A. Levine, Sean Callery and the NYU faculty. He notes, "It was the most intense few weeks of composing I have ever experienced, and it made me love what I do that much more!"
His experience with the UMKC composition faculty meant that he was already capable in orchestration, software notation, and through his studies in electro-acoustic composition, already knew how to use a DAW quite well.
Here is the scene he scored during the workshop.
