Conservatory Alumni Perform and Record for First Time on Conservatory's New Richard Cass Memorial Steinway
David McIntire (DMA, Composition, 2009) who runs publishing imprint Irritable Hedgehog, has released the first commercial recording of Ann Southam's Soundings for a New Piano. The CD, Ann Southam: Soundings for a New Piano, is available for purchase at Irritable Hedgehog as a CD or high-quality download. The recording is also available for purchase at iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other digital sources.
According to McIntire, this is the first commercial recording of a work by noted Canadian composer Ann Southam who passed away in 2010. Soundings for a New Piano was composed in 1986 and is distinctive in its blend of minimalist and modernist techniques and aesthetics.
The performance by R. Andrew Lee was realized on UMKC Conservatory's White Recital Hall stage, on the Conservatory's new Steinway.
