Composition Alum Nicholas Omiccioli Wins Red Note Composition Competition

The Conservatory is pleased to note that Nicholas Omiccioli (DMA, composition, 2014) has won the RED NOTE New Music Festival Composition Competition, Category A (Chamber Ensemble) with his work, push/pull.

There were 391 anonymous submissions from around the world.  Initial rounds were judged by members of the Music Composition faculty at Illinois State University.  The final round was judged by the esteemed composers:

Chen Yi (University of Missouri-Kansas City)
Sebastian Currier (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ)
Stephen Hartke (University of Southern California)

Runners Up include bang Z, Thomas Kotcheff (Beverly Hills, CA), Canoe, Weijun Chen (Buffalo, NY)

Honorable Mention include ... à travers ... encore, Carl Bettendorf (Bronx, NY), Extempore Anamnesis, Jihyun Kim (Bloomington, IN), quiet rooms, Igor Santos (Chicago, IL)

Mr. Omiccioli receives the $1000 prize, and his winning work will be performed March 31, 2015, on the third concert of the 2015 RED NOTE New Music Festival, Normal, IL.
