UMKC Conservatory Music Education Students Stacy Van Hoecke and Briana Swift Win Awards


The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to note that Stacy Van Hoecke, a Bachelor of Music Education senior from Overland Park, KS is selected by the music education faculty as the 2013 Presser Undergraduate Scholar.  The award is from the Presser Foundation, Haverford, PA.  The Foundation's mission is to promote music education, specifying that the recipient of this prestigious award be an outstanding undergraduate scholar and musician. The Conservatory's music education faculty noted Van Hoecke's solid and consistent work as a performer, scholar, and emerging teacher.  She also teaches privately, and is the president of the American Choral Directors Association UMKC Chapter.

We are also pleased to noted that Briana Swift, a Bachelor of Music Education senior from Olathe, KS is selected by the Conservatory music education faculty as the 2013 recipient of the Jack W. Stephenson Award, which is presented each year to a senior music education student with outstanding scholastic leadership, musical accomplishments and commitment to teaching.  Briana also teaches piano and voice, privately, and is director of Allegra Con Poco's young choir (grades 2–4).  Dr. Jack Stephenson was a Conservatory faculty member who made substantial contributions to the UMKC Conservatory.  Prior to his death in the late 1980s he was Professor and Chair of Music Education and Music Therapy.
