UMKC Conservatory Students and Alumni to Perform in Concert for Global Peace
The International Visitors Council of Kansas City presents the 2011 Citizen Diplomacy Award to the Layne Christensen Company in recognition of its humanitarian role in freeing the miners trapped in the collapsed mine in Chile. The Citizen Diplomacy Award is given in honor of the late John Dods III, who exemplified the spirit of citizen diplomacy and served as president of the board of directors for many years.
The award will be presented at the biennial Concert for Global Peace August 27, 2011, at Rockhurst High School’s Rose Theatre, 7:30 p.m.
The concert is sponsored by the UMKC Conservatory and the International Visitors Council of Kansas City.
Conservtory performers include students Youming Chen, viola; Alice Huang, cello; and Conservatory alumni Kristin Taylor, piano; Kairy Koshoeva, piano; David Kovac, viola; and Jonathan Borja, flute.
The featured performer is Muza, a Chilean jazz vocalist. Trio Aztlan, a local group of Chilean jazz performers will also perform.
