Conservatory Alum and Composer Mikel Rouse On Campus to Receive Award and Give Master Classes


Mikel Rouse is the Conservatory of Music and Dance’s 2011 Alumni Achievement Awardee. He is on campus April 26-29, 2011 to receive his award.

While on campus, he will present 2 master classes to Composition students (April 27, 2:30-4:30 p.m. room 521 Performing Arts Center) and to Musicology students, (April 29, noon-1 p.m., room 330, Musicology class room, Grant Hall).

Rouse received positive reviews in The New York Times for Gravity Radio, which premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Dec. 7, 2010. Released by Exit Music 1012, the album is available on iTunes and at all major retailers.

After graduating from the Conservatory and Kansas City Art Institute in 1978, Rouse moved to New York, where he formed a contemporary chamber ensemble, Mikel Rouse Broken Consort. With Broken Consort, Rouse produced several recordings, including A Walk In The Woods, which appeared on The New York Times list of the “Ten Best Records of 1985." Rouse also has premiered and directed several critically acclaimed modern operas and films.
