Zhou Long Appears on Kansas City's KCPT New Primetime Show "The Local Show" May 19, 2011, 7:30 p.m.
Zhou Long, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance Professor and winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his opera Madame White Snake, is a featured guest on KCPT’s new prime time cultural affairs program, The Local Show. The show airs Thursday, May 19, 2011, 7:30 p.m., Central Standard Time. on 19.1 HD.
The show will also feature performance footage from Madame White Snake, which had its world premiere at Opera Boston in 2010, and has been performed in Beijing, China.
The opera, which Zhou Long composed to a libretto by Cerise Lim Jacobs, is the story of a popular traditional Asian transformational myth, and is described as "a deeply expressive opera that draws on a Chinese folk tale to blend the musical traditions of the East and the West."
