UMKC Conservatory Has Strong Presence at 2011 University of Central Missouri New Music Festival / Society of Composers, Inc. Region VI Conference
UMKC Conservatory students and alumni participate in the 2011 University of Central Missouri New Music Festival / Society of Composers, Inc. Region VI Conference, Warrensburg, MO, April 8-10.
The festival features work by current student composers Andrew Cole (current DMA), Daniel Eichenbaum (current DMA), and Nick Omiccioli (current DMA) as well as works by alumni Jason Bahr (BM, 1995) Christopher Biggs (DMA, 2010), Jason Bolte (DMA, 2010), William Lackey (DMA, 2009, MM 2007), Christopher Levin (MM, 2008 and 2010), Lee Hartman (DMA, 2009, MM 2005), Mike McFerron (DMA, 2000, MM 1996), Kristin Shafel (MM, 2008, BM, 2005), and Hsiao-Lan Wang (MM, 2002).
In addition to the selected composers, the festival will feature KCContinuum, comprised of Jonathan Borja (DMA, flute, 2010, MM Musicology, 2010, MM flute, 2005), Youming Chen (current DMA, viola), Alice Huang (current AC, cello), Kari Johnson (current DMA, piano), Grace Lai (current DMA, flute), Charl Louw (current DMA, piano), Mauricio Salguero (current DMA, clarinet), and Keel Williams (MM bassoon, 2009, current AC, bassoon).
Kari Johnson and Jonathan Borja will also perform with Sascha Groschang (BM cello, 2004) and Cheryl Melfi (clarinet, UMKC Academy of Music and Dance) as Quadrivium. Rebecca Ashe (DMA flute 2008, MM flute, 1998) is special guest artist.
