Composition DMA Student Narong Prangcharoen's Composition Sattha is On Pacific Symphony's 2012 Roster

Orange County's Pacific Symphony will celebrate living composers, according to conductor Carl St. Clair. "We are bringing back a number of the composers with whom we have forged an important relationship over the last 20 years," says St. Clair. They include James Newton Howard, Michael Daugherty, Frank Ticheli, Osvaldo Golijov, Narong Prangcharoen and Richard Danielpour—and all of whom St.Clair considers personal friends. [...]

Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen's Sattha for Strings, Piano and Percussion [is] a memorial to the Boxing Day Tsunami tragedy of 2004 that had its premiere with the Symphony at the end of November 2005.

Narong's piece will be performed Thursday through Saturday, May 10-12, 2012, 8 p.m., Carl St.Clair, conductor, in the program, East meets West, with Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen's Sattha reflecting on the Tsunami that hit his native country. The work was selected by Orange County audiences as the winner of the American Composers Competition.
