UMKC Guest Composer Matthew Burtner Debuts RAT at UMKC in the New Student Union
Guest composer Matthew Burtner debuts RAT in Kansas City. On March 11, 2011 RAT, the Radical Arts Technology Ensemble will perform on UMKC’s campus at the new Student Union Stage, 7 p.m.
Just back from a performance at Zerospace in Milwaukee, this will be RAT’s first Kansas City performance.
The show will feature human-computer ensemble music, improvisation with computers, squeaky toy sound art, and music for Missouri prairie chickens by RAT, Sarah O’Hallaran,Sam Burt, John Chittum, Andrew Cole and Matthew Burtner. R.A.T. (Radical Arts Technology)? embraces concepts such as “the unfamiliar,” “the remote,” and “the lost” as compositional modalities. In its first season the ensemble includes Matthew Burtner, Director; Andrew Cole, Assistant Director?, and members Scott Blasco, Brad Baumgardner, John Chittum, Jared Thomasino, Scott King, James Kirkpatrick, Betty Liang, Nicholas Mason, Jamie Searle.
