Help the Conservatory Honor the Memory of Professor Emeritus Gerald Kemner

kemnerweb.jpg

The late Dr. Gerald Kemner, Professor Emeritus of Composition, was a beloved and respected member of the faculty for more than 30 years. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Conservatory has an opportunity to award an annual Gerald Kemner Prize in Orchestra Composition each spring, and an additional Gerald Kemner Prize for Wind Symphony Composition in the fall.

Both would provide a monetary award each year for the winning UMKC student composers, plus a public performance by UMKC ensembles. Our donor has challenged alumni and friends to help permanently endow the Kemner Prize by offering to double match all gifts. For example, a gift of $500 will be matched with an additional $1,000, thus tripling the impact of each gift. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 from alumni, friends and fans before May 15, 2011.

With the double match of $10,000, this will bring the total amount raised to $15,000, enough so the Kemner Prize can live into perpetuity. We invite you to make a secure online gift by copying and pasting this link into your web browser. Be sure to write “Gerald Kemner Prize” in the Comments box when you complete your online information.

If you prefer to mail a check, please make it out to UMKC and mail it to Gerald Kemner Prize, UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, 4949 Cherry Street, Kansas City, MO 64110. Thank you!
