UMKC Conservatory Dance Students Chosen to Perform with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater


The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to note that 29 Conservatory dance students have been selected to perform Alvin Ailey's Memoria with the Alvin Ailey American Dance TheaterRonni Favors, from the company is working with Conservatory students on the choreography.

Memoria is performed October 22–25, 2014, at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

"Alvin Ailey’s Memoria is a deeply personal work and one of his most affecting.  Mr. Ailey said that nearly all of his dances had some basis in a relationship, feeling or event that he experienced.  In the case of Memoria,  choreographed in 1979, his motivation was the death of his dear friend and colleague, Joyce Trisler."

Ronni Favors is the founding director of New York’s CAS/AileyCamp and provided guidance in the national implementation of the program.  In 1997, Ms. Favors was named Assistant Rehearsal Director of the Company and became Rehearsal Director in 1999.

Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year!
As the second home of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Friends are proud to present the Company in October at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 16th and Broadway, Kansas City MO (October 22–25), with 5 public performances. We are also looking forward to our 30th Anniversary G30 Gala, which will be at the Kauffman Center and the Grand Ballroom, Saturday, October 25.
Under the artistic direction of Robert Battle, the Company will feature both world and Kansas City premieres, as well as timeless classics. Highlight pieces include the deeply personal and affecting Alvin Ailey work Memoria and the timeless cultural treasure, Revelations.
The performances are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 22–24, 7:30 pm, and Saturday matinée, October 25, 2:00 pm. Ticket prices for the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday matinée performances are $29.00–$99.00.  Members and groups of 8 or more save 20%. Rush tickets are available for students with valid student ID two hours prior to performance for 50% off the individual ticket per student.

The Saturday evening October 25, G30 Gala 2014 is presented in collaboration with the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance and the Kansas City Art Institute.  The Gala helps support KCFAA’s year-round arts education programming for youth.
