UMKC Conservatory Freshman Flutist Emma Reno: Runner Up in Chamber Ensemble Competition
The Conservatory is pleased to note that freshman flute student EMMA RENO, from Mission Hills, KS, was the runner-up in the Midwest Chamber Ensemble's first annual Youth Concerto Competition, which is open to strings, woodwinds, brass, and piano. The final round, in the form of a public concert, was Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Prairie Village, KS.
Emma was the only wind player among the seven finalists, who were selected in preliminary rounds in January.
A graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School, Emma is the former principal flutist of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Kansas City. She was principal flutist of the Kansas All-State Orchestra in her junior year of high school and held the piccolo chair as a sophomore and senior. In summer 2012, she attended Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, where she performed in the World Youth Wind Symphony. Currently a student in UMKC's Honors Program, Emma studies flute with Dr. Mary Posses. Her former teachers include UMKC alumnae Brielle Frost, Sophia Tegart, and Christina Webster.For more information, please contact:
