Composition Student Wang A Mao's National and International Achievements
The Conservatory is pleased to note that second year DMA Composition student Wang A Mao is one of the finalists of New Idea in Music competition. Portland, OR. As the finalist, she is commissioned to compose a traditional string quartet: violin, violin, viola, cello for Third Angle’s concert, May 23, 2014, Portland, Oregon. Then one winner will be chosen.
She is also the recipient of one of the fellowships of the Susan and Ford Schumann center for composition studies, at the Aspen Music Festival and School, studying with Steven Stucky, George Tsontakis, Sydney Hodkinson, and Christopher Theofanidis, June 18-August 18, 2014.
She was the recipient of a Graduate Assistance Fund (Master Craftsman Award and Ida Streiff Rhodes Award with Outstanding Merit) which is offered by the UMKC Women’s Council. The funding supported the premiere of her duet for cello and piano, Returning Home at the Beijing Central Conservatory and the Tianjin Conservatory, China, December, 2013.
