Conservatory Academy Student Wins National MTNA Composition Competition


Coleman Gliddon, age 13, is the winner of the Music Teachers National Association National Composition Competition for the junior division. His piece, Romulus and Remus, will be performed in January by the UMKC Conservatory Graduate Fellowship String Quartet at UMKC and again in March at the MTNA National Conference in Chicago.

Gliddon, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, has been playing piano since age 5 and began composing music at age 9. He has been a student of Academy director and Conservatory associate teaching professor Dr. Mara Gibson since 2012. Gliddon is in seventh grade at Pembroke Hill Middle School, and when not working on his music he enjoys science and participates in the Science Olympiad competition.
