DMA Composition Student Xinyan Li Wins Two Prizes in International Competition And Wins New York Commission


Composition DMA student Xinyan Li has won two prizes in two categories in the "International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011", held in Greece.

Her winning pieces are mixed quintet Insight (2010) and wind quintet Mo Suo's Burial Ceremony (2006).

Xinyan Li is one of the five winners who received two prizes in this competition. There were 210 compositions submitted.

Conservatory alums Ingrid Stölzel and Jacob Gotlieb were finalists in the Expert category.

Xinyan Li has also been notified by the New York State Council on the Arts that she has been awarded a commission to write "Legend of Silk Road" for Music from China. The grant award is $4,000 and the piece will premiere in 2013.
