Conservatory Faculty and Students Perform at Opening Celebration of New Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
Conservatory faculty and students will perform in Kansas City's newest performance space, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, which is getting national attention. The opening weekend celebration is Sept. 16-18, 2011.
For the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Theater opening on Friday, September 16, UMKC Conservatory students singers and dancers will take the stage with Placido Domingo, Tommy Tune, Patti Lupone. Michael Stern will conduct the KC Symphony as our students perform in the quintet from West Side Story. UMKC dance faculty Dee Anna Hiett is choreographing the work.
The Conservatory's well-known jazz professor Bobby Watson will perform in a work he has been commissioned to write. The work, honoring KC's jazz legacy, will be performed Saturday, September 17, in Helzberg Hall with the KC Symphony. Bobby will share the stage with Itzhak Perlman. Michael Stern will conduct the KC Symphony.
The Conservatory is proud to participate in this nationally recognized celebration.
