Shao Zheng is 2016 UMKC Chamber Music Composition Competition Winner
The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to announce the 2016 UMKC Chamber Music Composition Competition Winners, presented by Musica Nova, April 21, 2016 in White Recital Hall.
This year’s instrumentation was for mixed ensemble of 3–5 players, chosen from 1 flute, 1 clarinet, 1 violin, 1 cello, 1 percussion, 1 piano, and 1 voice.
The winner is Shao Zheng (DMA), for his work Xian Ge.
The runner-up is Christina Butera (DMA) for her work chi bedda vuci avia II.
The other finalists were Lore by Ben Stevenson (MM) and Milkweed by Philip DeWalt (DMA).
The judges were Marilyn Shrude (Bowling Green State University) and Pierre Jalbert (Rice University).
