Composition Alum Leandro Espinosa Participated in Papal Celebration
Dr. Leandro Espinosa (DMA, Composition, 2002) is a composer and conductor, and an Associate Professor at Eastern Oregon University. He participated as one of six composers (including Arvo Part, Ennio Morricone and other notables) who contributed new music to the celebration exhibition of the 60th Anniversary of Pope Benedict XVIth's ordination.
The exhibition included 60 artists and included sculptors, painters, and film makers. In music six were invited to submit manuscripts and other materials. Arvo Part performed with a child a piece composed for the occasion. In Leandro's case he submitted, along with the manuscript, a (unique) score and a recording of the Mass he wrote, dedicated to the Pope. (For the exhibit only two movements of the Mass were recorded.)
The exhibition's dates were July 4-September 4, 2011 at the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican Museums. After September 4 the new works will be part of the Vatican collection of modern art.
