Saxophone Student Walter Puyear Wins 2016 Chancellor's Concerto Competition

The Conservatory is pleased to announce that sophomore Walter Puyear, saxophone student who studies with Zachary Shemon, has won the 2016 Chancellor's Concerto Competition. Walter will perform Ingolf Dahl's Concerto for Saxophone and Wind Ensemble with the UMKC Conservatory Wind Symphony, under the direction of Steven D. Davis in a future concert.

Piano student Xiangyu Zhao is an alternate.

Thanks to the judges Linda diFiore, head of UCSB vocal division; Kyle Wiley Pickett, music director of Topeka and Springfield, MO symphonies, and Uriel Tsachor, Busoni Competition winner and piano chair at University of Iowa.
