Composition Professor Zhou Long and Composition DMA Student Xinyan Li Interviewed by Swedish Radio

UMKC composition professor Dr. Zhou Long and UMKC doctoral candidate Xinyan Li’s music and interviews will be broadcast by Sweden's Sveriges Radio, Channel P2, November 7, 2011 in a 59-minute program called “New York, stad med ständig Klang”.

Sveriges Radio is Sweden’s national radio broadcaster, and its Channel P2 focuses on classical music, folk, jazz and world music (similar to BBC Radio 3). The program “New York, stad med ständig Klang” in the radio series “Musikmagasinet” is produced by international award-winner Birgitta Tollan.

Dr. Zhou Long (b. 1953), UMKC Conservatory Research Professor of Music Composition, won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his opera Madame White Snake. He is internationally recognized for creating a unique body of music that brings together the aesthetic concepts and musical elements of East and West.

Xinyan Li (b. 1978), UMKC Conservatory doctoral candidate, has earned international attention by receiving prizes, commissions and performances from Aspen Music Festival, American Composers Orchestra, ASCAP Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts, among others. The upcoming radio broadcasting includes music by Dr. Zhou Long and by Xinyan Li as well as their interview with Birgitta Tollan about their musical ideas and composition experiences.
