New York Times Applauds Conservatory alum Mikel Rouse
Mikel Rouse is the Conservatory of Music and Dance’s 2011 Alumni Achievement Awardee. He received positive reviews in The New York Times for Gravity Radio, which premieres at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Dec. 7, 2010. Released by Exit Music 1012, the album is available on iTunes and at all major retailers. After graduating from the Conservatory and Kansas City Art Institute in 1978, Rouse moved to New York, where he formed a contemporary chamber ensemble, Mikel Rouse Broken Consort.
With Broken Consort, Rouse produced several recordings, including A Walk In The Woods, which appeared on The New York Times list of the “Ten Best Records of 1985”. Rouse also has premiered and directed several critically acclaimed modern operas and films.
“We speak of innovation and entrepreneurship at the Conservatory, and Mikel is a shining example,” said Conservatory Dean Peter Witte.
