Sphinx Chamber Orchestra Performs and is in Residence at the UMKC Conservatory

The Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, with the Harlem Quartet, will perform on the Conservatory's Music Alliance series, a partnership with the Friends of Chamber Music, October 24, 2:30 p.m., in White Recital Hall.  The program includes Sibelius's Andante Festivo, Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins in C Major, Frank's "Coquetos" from Levendas, an Andean Walkabout, Walker's Lyric for Strings, Turina's La Oracion del Torero, Tillis's "Wade in the Water," from Spiritual Fantasy for String Quartet, Mendelssohn's Sinfonia for string orchestra, and Perkinson's Sinfonietta No. 1 for Strings:  III. Rondo, Allegro furioso.

While in Kansas City, Sphinx will be in residence at the following Kansas City schools on Monday, October 25, 2010. The residency is part of the Conservatory Academy's Musical Bridges outreach program:

Eisenhower Middle School, Kansas City, KS 2901 North 72nd Street Kansas City, KS 66109-1741 9:45 am, from 40 students to full school projected

Ruskin High School 7000-46 E 111th St, Kansas City, MO 64134 1 pm, 200 anticipated students

Paseo Academy 4747 Flora, Kansas City, MO 64110 1 pm, 50 music students anticipated.

Sphinx will also work with the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, coaching the students.
