Conservatory Flute Student Achia Floyd Advances in Competition

Achia Floyd, a first-year MM/Flute Performance student who studies with Mary Posses, is one of only 16 performers who have advanced to the Semi-Final Round of the WAMSO Young Artist Competition in St. Paul, MN January 15, 2011. Those invited to this live round were selected from Preliminary Round recordings. They will compete for cash prizes, an appearance with the Minnesota Orchestra, and scholarships to summer music programs such as Aspen, Interlochen, Chautauqua, and Madeline Island. Ms. Floyd is a native of Tallahassee, FL and completed an undergraduate music degree at Florida State University. WAMSO, the Women's Association of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, is the Minnesota Orchestra's primary volunteer support group. They have sponsored this competition since 1956.
