DMA Composition Student Narong Prangcharoen Chosen for MN Orchestra Composer Institute
DMA Composition student Narong Prangcharoen has been chosen to participate in the Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute October 22-30, 2010. Minnesota Symphony has its own Composer Institute and each year they announce the competition for the composers. Each year they will select up to Nine Winners to participate in the Composer Institute. Narong is one of only seven winners selected from over 168 contestants, demonstrating the strength of the UMKC Composition program whose students win many national and international competitions.
The seven selected pieces will be performed on the 5th Annual Minnesota Orchestra's Future Classics! concert, conducted by Music Director Osmo Vänskä, on Friday October 29, 2010 at 8 p.m. in Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis. This occasion will mark the 10th anniversary of the Composer Institute. The Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute, presented each season by the Minnesota Orchestra and American Composers Forum in cooperation with the American Music Center, provides the opportunity for up to nine composers from across the nation to participate in an intensive immersion into the world of a major American symphony orchestra.
