Academy piano instructor and Conservatory alum Cameron Dibble Awarded Missouri Teacher of the Year from the Missouri Music Teacher Association
The UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance is pleased to announce that Academy piano instructor and Conservatory alum Cameron Dibble (DMA 1992) was awarded Missouri Teacher of the Year from the Missouri Music Teacher Association (MMTA) at the joint KMTA and MMTA conference June 11, 2010. Melody Stroth from the Conservatory Alumni Association was awarded the Kansas Music Teacher of the Year from the KS Music Teacher Association.
Conservatory Assistant Professor Diane Petrella, MMTA President Elect, helped to organize the conference which featured performances and presentations by the Fabers and Petrellas June 10–12, 2010 at Mid-America Nazarene University. Other notable presentations included Academy students Jonathan Dawson, Angela Holmes and Andrew Morris coached by Academy instructors Cameron Dibble and Chia Fei Lin; and Quadrivium, including Rebecca Ashe (DMA 2008 and Academy), Cheryl Melfi (Academy), Kari Johnson (Conservatory DMA student and Academy) and Mark Stauffer (BM 2007 and Academy) performing the world premiere of the 2010 MMTA and KMTA commissioned composition Garapan, by Peiying Yuan (MM 2010) through the MTNA Commissioned Composer program chaired by Mara Gibson (MO) and Timothy Shook (KS). This was the first time the two states had pooled resources to offer the commissioned composer a $3000 award. Ms. Yuan will go on to the national competition this fall. Erika Kinser, (Conservatory DMA student) President for the UMKC Arts Enterprise chapter, presented a session on Business Strategies for Independent Music Studios.
