DMA Composition Student Tyler Capp Wins Gerald Kemner Prize

The Conservatory's DMA composition student Tyler Capp is the winner of the Gerald Kemner Prize. His work Cryptogram will be performed by the Conservatory Wind Symphony in White Recital Hall, November 15, 2012, 7:30 p.m.

The late professor emeritus Gerald Kemner was a Conservatory icon for generations of students, as well as a prolific composer of orchestral, choral, organ, and piano music.  He served as professor of harpsichord, theory, and composition at UMKC for more than 30 years.  Following his 2007 death, an endowed composition scholarship was established in his memory.

The Gerald Kemner Prize In Large Instrumental Ensemble Composition was endowed in Dr. Kemner's honor in 2011 by friends, family, and former students.

Congratulations, Tyler!
