Conservatory Academy Is Awarded Prestigious Francis Family Foundation Grant
The UMKC Conservatory's Academy is pleased to announce that it has received two grants totaling $120,000 from Kansas City's Francis Family Foundation to support the Academy's programs: a $100,000 leadership grant and a $20,000 grant specifically for the Academy's Musical Bridges program.
Mara Gibson, director of the Conservatory's Academy said, ""We are humbled by this unexpected support from the Francis Family Foundation which will bolster the Musical Bridges program and assist with long term planning. Our impact within the Kansas City community will deepen and grow from this cornerstone. We will provide more music to more students, and we are very grateful indeed!"
Musical Bridges provides exceptional young musicians with the intensive, one-on-one instruction and performance experience necessary to prepare for auditions into selective university programs such as UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. While quality performing arts education can take place through ensemble instruction at the pre-collegiate level, the ability to reach the highest levels of artistry in music almost always depends on individual nurturing through one-on-one lessons beginning at an early age. By focusing on underrepresented populations, Musical Bridges aims to give students with great artistic potential the opportunity to succeed in the performing arts.
Through the Conservatory's Academy and its outreach programs, such as Musical Bridges, the Conservatory family of students, faculty, and alums serves as mentors to young students in the Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri schools. For more information, please contact:
